The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States on five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders including Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
