The carrier will offer no-cost fast in-flight internet through space-based partnership
Passengers aboard this carrier will soon access high-speed connectivity during flights without charge following a major partnership from Elon Musk's communications provider.
No-cost and Quick Connectivity Available to Everyone
The airline stated that this free, “quick and reliable” connectivity offering via SpaceX becomes offered for travelers in coach, business, or premium cabins from the coming month.
Widespread Rollout Throughout Multiple Airlines
The parent company for the airline, IAG, confirmed it had finalized an agreement involving Starlink to provide connectivity coverage across 500-plus aircraft within their carriers, which also include Aer Lingus, the Spanish carrier, and Vueling.
Uninterrupted Internet starting at Boarding through Landing
BA noted that this rollout of the technology was included in a multi-billion pound “transformation” plan and will offer uninterrupted internet service to passengers starting at boarding to landing, including when in flight over seas and far-off locations.
Passengers will be able to link several electronics and do not require a separate password.
“Gamechanging for us and our customers, improving the journey in the air on BA through providing them smooth wifi from start to finish.”
Existing Internet Offerings
Basic internet access remains offered for BA flyers on most of its jets via the .air platform.
Participants of BA’s frequent flyer program are able to transmit messages and text-based correspondence during flights at no cost, while flyers looking to watch music, movies, or films during their flight and are not travelling in business or first can expect to pay between £4.99 and £21.99 for one internet plan.
Starlink’s Infrastructure
The provider uses a system of thousands of spacecraft which is operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Recent Upgrades at BA
BA's executive team are focusing to turn the airline back after years with budget reductions, system failures, strikes, plus mass redundancies.
The airline noted that use of smart technology had helped them to reach their punctuality at the best levels from 2012.
Profit Outlook
Recently, the carrier disclosed a jump in financial performance during H1 recently, contributing to the parent company results to grow.
IAG is set to release their results for the quarter recently soon.
Additional Satellite Deals
The airline's announcement arrives days after telecom operator Virgin Media O2 said it was teaming up alongside Starlink to boost cellular connectivity in the countryside of the UK, enabling customers to seamlessly connect handsets using satellites when no regular mobile signal is available.
